Sample holders

Following sample holders are prepared at each experimental station.  However, the design of the sample holder for cryostat is different at BL-10B.  That is similar to that for conventional sample holder at RT.

The beam height is ca. 188.5mm above the top of the optical bench.

Sorry, Japanese characters are contained in the drawings.

Conventional sample holder at RT (pdf drawing)

This sample holder has been used since 1982 and is a standard one at XAFS stations in the Photon Factory.  Screw holes fit to those of standard metal foils.  Two samples can be mounted simultaneously.

Sample holder is made of brass.  Thus should mind the fluorescence when used for fluorescence XAFS.

New sample holder at RT  (sample holder, assembly)

This new sample holder will be easier to handle.  One side fits to standard slide mount (50mm * 50mm).  The other side fits to standard metal foils.

The sample holder is made of aluminum with steel(?) springs.

Sample holder for cryocooler (sample holder, holder base)

Indium foil (0.3mm thick) should be inserted between the cold head and the sample holder mount so as to keep good thermal conduction.  Three samples can be mounted and cooled down simultaneously.

The sample holder is made of copper or aluminum.  That of aluminum may be better for fluorescence XAFS so as to reduce Cu fluorescence.
