Upgrading of PF-AR; Advanced Ring for Pulse X-rays

PF-AR, Advanced Ring for Pulse X-rays, is characterized as a single-bunch machine. Pulse X-rays from the single-bunch operation of PF-AR can be used for the studies on structural change of materials with high time resolution.

As a part of the plan, the reconstruction and reinforcement of the PF-AR were approved by government in 1999, which includes
(1) to increase beam life time by a better vacuum of the ring,
(2) to stabilize beam orbit with more beam position monitors and steering magnets,
(3) to construct more undulator beamlines in a new building.

By the end of 2001, the reconstruction work of the ring was finished and the commissioning was started on January 8, 2002.
