Safety manager for heating systems

• When you plan to use any form of heating device at the Photon Factory, "Declaration of the intended use of heating devices" must be submitted through the User Support System at least two weeks prior to use. You will not be able to use such devices unless you have submitted the form.
  


• "Heating devices" are defined here as any system or instrument used to increase the temperature of samples or experimental apparatus using fuel or electricity. The form need not be submitted if you only plan to use, unmodified, heating devices already provided at your experimental station or the chemistry laboratory. Please inform the Floor-manager (Unten-Toban; PHS 4209) whenever you bake your vacuum chamber(s).
  


• The form will be displayed at the experimental station after submission.
  


• After submitting the form you may be asked to provide more detailed information about the devices you intend to use.
  


• Permission cannot be granted for periods of use longer than your beamtime. Please state on the form the actual period of planned use.
  


• Before you can use your devices your setup will be inspected. Please indicate when you wish the inspection to take place (9:00-16:30) on the form.
  


• When using heating devices, the following restrictions apply.
  1) When in operation the devices may not be left unattended.
  2) Do not place flammable items near the devices.
  3) Before using the devices, check that there are no electrical short circuits.
  4) The devices must be equipped with proper safety systems, for example, fuses and circuit-breakers.
  5) Transformers (SLIDAC) must not be used unless equipped with fuses and an ammeter.
  6) Fix the device appropriately for earthquakes.
