Commissioning history of the
new PF storage ring
The PF storage ring was reconstructed to a
low-emittance lattice configuration during Dec. 1996 - Sep. 1997. The new
PF storage ring was commissioned during October, 1997. This is a short historical
review of the commissioning works.
- October 1, 1997
Commissioning started at 2:49 PM.
The beam circulated the ring over 4 turns at 10:23 PM.
- October 2
The beam circulated over 60 turns at 0:10 AM.
First beam was successfully stored at 2:58 PM.
- October 3
Improved injection efficiency. Beam filling rate of 0.3 mA/sec was achieved.
Maximum beam current of 80 mA was stored at 11:38 PM.
- October 4
Vacuum conditioning was carried out. Maximum stored current: 224 mA at
6:28 PM.
- October 5
Vacuum conditioning was carried out. Maximum beam current: 300 mA at 2:08
PM.
- October 6
Maximum beam current of 332.7 mA was achieved at 9:15 AM.
Vacuum conditioning, tuning on RF system, check on BPM electrode and tune
survey were carried out.
- October 7
Maximum beam current of 361.3 mA was achieved at 7:08 AM.
Linac maintenance & study during 9:00AM - 0:00AM (Oct. 8).
- October 8
Beam current of 389.1 mA was achieved at 5:08 AM.
Vacuum conditioning and survey of beam optics was carried out.
- October 9
Test of the SR position monitors was carried out in the morning.
After some maintenance works, vacuum conditioning continued. Beam current
of 502 mA was achieved at 7:35 PM.
- October 10
Vacuum conditioning was carried out with beam currents of 500-400 mA.
- October 11
Vacuum conditioning was carried out with beam currents of 500-400 mA.
- October 12
Vacuum conditioning was carried out with beam currents of 500-400 mA.
- October 13
Tuning of the beam orbit and short study on ion trapping was carried out.
Vacuum conditioning continued in the midnight.
- October 14
Linac study was carried out in the daytime. Test on the orbit feedback
system and correction on the beam optical functions were carried from the
evening to the night.
- October 15
Some check & maintenance works were carried out in the daytime.
Vacuum conditioning continued in the night.
- October 16
Measurement of the beam emittance
was carried out at low beam currents.
Tuning on the beam orbit and vacuum conditioning took place after that.
- October 17
Vacuum conditioning was carried out. Outgassing from the SR absorbers in
the undulator/wiggler beamlines was also carried out in the midnight.
- October 18
Vacuum conditioning (outgassing by synchrotron radiation) was carried out.
- October 19
Vacuum conditioning was carried out.
New control system for the multipole wiggler #13 was tested.
- October 20
Vacuum conditioning and machine tuning were carried out.
- October 21
Tuning on the beam orbit and a test of the new control system for MPW#13
were carried out.
- October 22
Vacuum conditioning of the beamlines was carried out.
- October 23
Correction of beam orbit for insertion deviced was carried out in the morning.
Test of the orbit feedback system was carried out from the afternoon to
the midnight.
- October 24
Maintenance works were carried out during 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
Vacuum conditioning was carried out after 5:00 PM.
- October 25
Correction data for insertion devices were taken. Vacuum conditioning was
carried out in the midnight.
- October 26
Test on the orbit feedback system was carried out in the daytime. Vacuum
conditioning was carried out in the midnight.
- October 27
Test on the orbit feedback system was carried out.
- October 28
Measurement of beam emittance, test on the orbit feedback system and tuning
on insertion devices were carried out.
- October 29
Adjustment on the SR positions was carried out in the daytime.
Tuning on Insertion devices was carried out in the night.
- October 30
Tune survey, tuning on insertion devices and test on the orbit feedback
system were carried out.
- October 31
Study on a single-bunch operation, tuning on the insertion devices and
study on ion-trapping were carried out.
- November 1
Test on the orbit feedback system was carried out.
- November 2
Measurement on the beam emittance, test on the new control system for MPW#13,
study on a single-pass BPM system and tuning on the beam orbit were carried
out.
- November 3
Test on the orbit feedback system was carried out.
- November 4
User run started.
